Principal System Safety Engineer

Overview

Position:
Senior System Safety Engineer – Onsite, Woburn, MA.

• Develop and implement MIL-STD-882E compliant system safety programs encompassing management, analysis, evaluation, and verification.
• Add system safety features into product design, update strategy, and ensure compliance with contract and funding stipulations.
• Create schedules, integrate safety tasks into the Program Integrated Master Schedule, and manage the safety program within this schedule.
• Coordinate safety budget and tasking, and negotiate EACs with CAM/ITPL/product owner.
• Mentor junior safety engineers.
• Participate in engineering review boards and configuration control boards to assess design changes.
• Lead and coordinate System Safety Working Groups with Raytheon and customer stakeholders.
• Escalate risks, follow corrective actions, and maintain ongoing feedback loops with functional and program management.
• Interpret system requirements, customer specifications, and military standards to recommend compliance strategies.
• Collaborate with systems, software, firmware, electrical, hardware, environmental safety, human systems interfaces, and test engineering teams.
• Analyze engineering drawings and schematics for fault tolerance, hazards, and safety compliance.
• Manage safety related interactions with suppliers/subcontractors; innovate better safety solutions.
• Identify best practices to improve safety culture and shape system safety/Human System Interfaces posture throughout the lifecycle.

• Required:
  
  Degree in STEM and at least 8 years of relevant experience in system safety.
• Required:
  
  Experience with MIL-STD-882E risk assessment concepts.
• Required:
  
  Writing technical reports and presentations; briefing safety status at safety approval authorities.
• Required:
  
  Managing a safety program and meeting Secret U.S. government clearance; U.S. citizenship.
• Preferred:
  Experience briefing at military safety review board.
• Preferred:
  Experience implementing system and software safety in Agile environment.
• Preferred:
  Interpersonal and project management skills; managing safety program and supporting safety personnel.
• Preferred:
  Experience with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) and proposal development.
• Preferred:
  Interfacing with Human Systems Integration and MIL-STD-1472.
• Preferred:
  Experience with engineering change proposals, review boards, and System Safety Working Groups.
• Preferred:
  Master’s degree in STEM.

• Salary range: $107,500 – $204,500 USD.
