What You Will DoAs a Senior System Safety Engineer, your responsibilities will include:
- Developing and implementing one or more MIL-STD-882E compliant system safety programs
- Performing MIL-STD-882E System Safety Program tasks and analyses, or customer’s approved equivalent
- Coordinating with customer safety representatives, applying methods, standards, and techniques to clarify system requirements for software, hardware, and test personnel; ensuring design, architecture considerations are allocated to the system and integrated horizontally across development teams
- Coordinating with customer safety representatives to gain safety approval from appropriate Safety Review Board authorities
- Working across all integrated product teams and lines to properly eliminate hazards or provide effective controls
- Collaborating with Program Management and government approval authorities from program startup through production to demilitarization and disposal backgrounds
- Performing system safety planning, hazard analyses, and design analyses
- Briefing safety considerations at technical reviews and as part of the safety approval process
- Interpreting system requirements, customer specifications and military standards
- Preparing internal and customer reports describing various analyses relevant to the system safety program
- Collaborating across multiple disciplines to gain a full understanding of product architecture and design
- Interfacing with other engineering functions:
Systems Engineering, Software or Firmware Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Hardware Engineering - Managing System Safety Working Group(s) between key Raytheon and customer representatives
- Typical requirement:
Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM preferred) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience - Experience with risk assessment concepts such as those in MIL-STD 882E
- Experience writing technical reports and presentations
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. government‑issued security clearance; U.S. citizenship required
- Experience developing and implementing MIL-STD-882E System Safety Program tasks and analyses (management, analysis, evaluation, and verification)
- Experience with DoD System Safety Programs, e.g., MIL-STD-882 / DO-178
- Experience preparing internal and customer reports describing analyses relevant to the system safety program
- Experience reviewing software code and requirements for safety considerations
- Experience collaborating across multiple disciplines
- Experience interfacing with other engineering functions:
Systems Engineering, Software or Firmware Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Hardware Engineering - Experience managing Working Groups
- Active and transferable Secret U.S. government‑issued security clearance
