Job Description & How to Apply Below
This role spans circuit design and simulation, PCB development, electrical integration, and hands-on lab work in a fast-moving hardware startup environment. You will work alongside the founding engineering team and gain rare exposure to the full hardware development cycle.
You might be a great fit if you...- Want to work on hardware that does not exist yet. You want to see your designs running in an actual machine, not just in a simulation.
- Are comfortable with ambiguity. Novel systems mean novel problems. You enjoy figuring things out from first principles.
- Want your work to matter quickly. At a lean startup, your contributions go directly into the machine.
- Are curious about electrical engineering and advanced manufacturing.
- Thrive in collaborative, fast-paced environments and communicate clearly across disciplines.
- Support the design and development of electrical circuits and systems for a novel metal additive manufacturing platform, spanning power delivery, signal conditioning, and control electronics.
- Assist in circuit simulation and analysis using industry-standard tools (e.g., LTspice, SPICE, or equivalent) to validate designs before hardware build.
- Participate in PCB schematic capture and layout for prototype boards, following good design practices for noise, thermal management, and manufacturability.
- Contribute to the bring-up, characterization, and debugging of electrical assemblies using standard lab equipment including oscilloscopes, multimeters, and signal generators.
- Support integration of electrical subsystems with mechanical and software components across the full system.
- Assist in developing and maintaining electrical documentation including schematics, BOMs, and test records.
- Perform hands-on assembly, rework, and testing of prototype hardware in a lab environment.
- Participate in design reviews and contribute to iterative improvement of electrical systems based on test results.
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Coursework in circuits, electronics, or power systems with hands-on lab experience.
- Familiarity with basic circuit simulation tools and schematic capture.
- Comfort with standard electrical test and measurement equipment.
- Attention to detail and a safety-conscious mindset, particularly around high-power systems.
- Exposure to PCB design software (KiCad, Altium, Eagle, or similar).
- Experience with embedded microcontrollers or development platforms.
- Familiarity with power electronics or analog design.
- Prior internship, co-op, research lab, or project team experience building real hardware.
- Any exposure to additive manufacturing, industrial equipment, or hardware startups is a plus.
- Hands-on experience at the frontier of metal additive manufacturing at a Y Combinator-backed startup.
- Direct mentorship from the founding engineering team.
- A lean, collaborative environment where your ideas are heard and acted upon quickly.
- Flexible scheduling to accommodate academic commitments; full-time or part-time arrangements considered.
- The opportunity to contribute to NSF-funded research with real-world industrial applications.
