Job Description & How to Apply Below
This is a full-stack electrical engineering role at an early-stage hardware startup: you will lead circuit design and simulation, drive PCB development from schematic through production, develop embedded control systems, and build the sensing and validation infrastructure that enables our process to operate reliably at scale.
You might be a great fit if you...- Want to build something genuinely new. You will be designing from the ground up in a domain that does not yet have a playbook.
- Are energized by constraint. Tight budgets, hard deadlines, and novel physics all perform well under those conditions.
- Take end-to-end ownership. From initial architecture through bring-up, validation, and production readiness, you drive it across the finish line.
- Want to have an impact on decarbonizing manufacturing. You understand that more efficient processes and lighter parts have real consequences at scale.
- Lead end-to-end electrical system development for a novel metal additive manufacturing platform, from architecture definition through prototyping, validation, and production readiness.
- Design and simulate analog and power electronics circuits using industry-standard tools, ensuring performance, reliability, and safety across operating conditions.
- Own PCB design and layout from schematic capture through fabrication and bring-up, applying best practices for signal integrity, EMC, and design for manufacturability.
- Develop and maintain embedded firmware for real-time control and monitoring of the system's electrical subsystems, interfacing with sensors, actuators, and motion hardware.
- Define and execute electrical verification and validation procedures, including functional testing, design review, and FMEA, in alignment with industry standards.
- Specify and qualify electronic components and subsystems for reliable operation in demanding manufacturing environments.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical, software, and process engineering to ensure clean system-level integration.
- Establish and own electrical documentation standards: schematics, BOMs, design review records, and test reports.
- Contribute to the company's IP development and support patent preparation in collaboration with the founding team.
- Mentor interns and junior engineers as the team scales.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field;
Master's or PhD a plus. - 2+ years of hands-on experience designing and developing electronic hardware, preferably in an industrial, manufacturing, or hardware startup context.
- Proficiency in circuit simulation and analog/power electronics design using industry-standard tools.
- Experience with PCB design and layout (KiCad, Altium, or equivalent), from schematic through production-ready files.
- Familiarity with embedded firmware development and real-time control systems.
- Experience defining and executing electrical V&V procedures, including functional testing and design review processes.
- Demonstrated ability to take hardware from concept through build, test, and iterative improvement.
- Experience in a hardware startup or early-stage product development environment.
- Background in high-power electronics, motor drives, or other demanding industrial electrical systems.
- Familiarity with design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for test (DFT) principles.
- Exposure to FMEA, functional safety standards, or electrical regulatory compliance (IEC, UL, CE).
- Experience with FPGA, DSP, or real-time embedded platforms.
- Interest in metal additive manufacturing or advanced manufacturing processes.
- NSF-funded deep-tech startup with differentiated, defensible technology.
- Potential equity incentive based on long-term contributions and performance.
- Direct collaboration with the founding team on hardware that does not exist elsewhere in the world.
- A lean, low-bureaucracy environment where your technical judgment shapes product direction.
- Flexible working arrangements and a culture that respects your time and autonomy.
- The opportunity to file patents and contribute to a growing IP portfolio in a novel technical domain.
