Process Engineer, Chemical Engineering
Boston Metal is seeking a Process Development Engineer to facilitate the development of our Molten Oxide Electrolysis (MOE) platform to revolutionize the millennia-old steel industry, while staying cost-competitive with no greenhouse-gas emissions.
In this role you will work with pilot-scale operations and R&D to develop industrial scale pyrometallurgical processes involving MOE. Responsibilities include designing experiments to validate and improve process parameters and flow diagrams, analysis and presentation of experimental results, and interfacing across teams to achieve your goals and communicate your findings. This is a role with significant room for growth reporting to the Director of Process Development & Engineering.
Requirements:- B.S. with >5 years of experience, M.S. with >2 years of experience, or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related field
- Demonstrated ability to generate actionable learnings through experiment design and execution
- Willingness to travel internationally for at least 2 weeks a quarter
- Strong grasp of electrochemistry principles (e.g., charge transfer, Current-Voltage relationships)
- Strong grasp of chemical engineering principles (e.g., mass and energy balances, thermodynamics, transport phenomena)
Skills and Experience:
- Proficiency in one or more of Fact Sage, CAD, COMSOL, and Python
- Experience in characterization of metals and materials (XRF, LECO, SEM…)
- Embrace the “start-up mindset”, thrive in small teams, be a self-motivated, quick learner, passionate, agile, and adaptable
- Develop solutions that make parts of their current job obsolete
While performing the duties of this job, the employee has potential for exposure to hazardous chemicals and/or hazardous waste, extremely high temperatures, occasional exposure to moving equipment the risks of which are minimized through compliance with the use of proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and established safety policies and procedures. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Additional InformationYou will be working in a small team environment where teamwork and good relationships with other team members is critical. We operate pilot plants and labs and many of our staff members are required to wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and you should be prepared to do so as well when necessary.
