Position

Opening

Optima Overnight is currently seeking a Controller to undertake all aspects of financial management, including corporate accounting, financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting preparation, as well as development of internal control policies and procedures. The ideal candidate is innovative, data-driven, and passionate about transforming traditional finance functions through emerging technologies while maintaining rigorous financial integrity in a high-volume, operations-focused environment. The Controller will report directly to the President.

Responsibilities
  • Manage accounting team of five including remote and hybrid employees
  • Manage all accounting operations including Billing, A/R, A/P, General Accounting, Payroll journals, Intercompany Accounting and Revenue Recognition
  • Prepare budgets and financial forecasts and report variances
  • Prepare Balance Sheet Reconciliations at each monthend
  • Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements
  • Initiate, support and execute monthend and yearend Accounting Close process
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting

    Manage and comply with local, and multistate, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
  • Work with HR on internal policies, processes, filings, and payroll entries
  • Works closely with General Managers of all three companies
  • Direct the implementation and optimization of AI and automation tools to modernize the department, including:
    • AIpowered financial forecasting and anomaly detection.
    • Automated accounts payable/receivable processing using machine learning for invoice matching and fraud detection.
    • Generative AI for drafting financial narratives, compliance reports, and management summaries.
    • Robotic Process Automation (RPA) integrated with AI for repetitive tasks like reconciliations, accruals, and data entry.
    • Predictive analytics for cost modeling (e.g., route optimization impact on margins, fuel price volatility).
Education and Experience
  • 5 years of experience in a senior/lead accounting/finance role with 10 years of overall experience
  • 3 years of accounting management experience
  • Degree in Business Administration or Accounting preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles, procedures and payroll
  • Experience with creating and analyzing financial statements
  • Experience with intercompany accounting and revenue recognition is preferred
  • Experience driving general ledger functions and the monthend and yearend Accounting Close process
  • Excellent accounting software user and administration skills (Quick Books, Ebilling)
