The Process Technician is responsible for setting up, monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimizing manufacturing processes within a custom plastics manufacturing environment. This role ensures production equipment operates efficiently, products meet quality standards, and process parameters are maintained to support safe and consistent production. The Process Technician works closely with production, quality, maintenance, and engineering teams to improve productivity and reduce downtime.
Key Responsibilities- set up and start production equipment, including injection molding, extrusion, thermoforming, blow molding, or other plastics processing machinery
- Monitor machine performance and adjust process parameters to maintain product quality and production efficiency
- Troubleshoot processing issues, equipment malfunctions, and product defects
- Perform mold, die, and tooling changes as required
- Conduct process startups, shutdowns, and changeovers according to established procedures
- Verify products meet customer specifications and quality requirements through routine inspections and measurements
- Document process settings, production data, downtime events, and quality information
- Collaborate with Process Engineers and Production Supervisors to implement process improvements
- Support root cause investigations and corrective actions related to quality and production issues
- Minimize scrap and material waste through effective process control and optimization
- Assist with preventive maintenance activities and equipment troubleshooting
- Train and support machine operators on proper process procedures and best practices
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while following all company safety policies
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Technical degree or certification in Plastics Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or related field preferred
- 2+ years of experience in plastics manufacturing preferred
- Experience with injection molding, extrusion, thermoforming, blow molding, or similar plastic processing equipment
- Experience performing machine setups, process adjustments, and troubleshooting
- Strong understanding of plastics manufacturing processes and equipment
- Ability to read and follow work instructions, process sheets, and technical documentation
- Knowledge of quality inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges
- Mechanical aptitude and strong troubleshooting abilities
- Ability to identify process deviations and take corrective action
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality
- Effective communication and teamwork skills
- Basic computer skills for data entry and production reporting
- Experience in a custom plastics or high-mix manufacturing environment
- Knowledge of scientific molding principles
- Familiarity with SPC (Statistical Process Control) and Lean Manufacturing concepts
- Forklift and overhead crane experience a plus
- Experience working with automated manufacturing equipment and robotics
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift throughout a manufacturing shift
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis
- Ability to work in a production environment with exposure to heat, noise, and moving machinery
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment
