The Raytheon team is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to support the Missile Defense Sensors (MDS) Software Department. The MDS Software mission is to deliver world‑class radar and Command & Control (C2) software for a wide array of surveillance and warning systems, including Army, Navy, Sea‑Based X‑Band Radar, Qatar Early Warning Radar, Taiwan Surveillance Radar Program, and GLOBUS systems.

What

You Will Do
  • Lead the design, development, testing, and deployment of complex software solutions for radar and C2 systems.
  • Analyze, implement, and test software modifications to enhance functionality, performance, and reliability of existing baselines.
  • Drive resolution of complex trouble reports, using debugging tools to quickly identify and fix defects while optimizing code for performance.
  • Provide technical leadership in an agile environment, driving continuous improvement and ensuring adherence to industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with systems, integration, and test engineers to define requirements and guarantee seamless integration of software components.
  • Guide the development and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines and automation tools to enable efficient software delivery.
  • Act as a technical mentor, delegating tasks and giving guidance to junior and mid‑level engineers.
  • Represent the software team in program‑level discussions, delivering technical expertise and ensuring alignment with program objectives.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and methodologies, driving innovation and advancing the team’s technical capabilities.

Qualifications You Must Have
  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM or equivalent, with 8+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with C, C++, or Ada for software development, testing, and integration.
  • Experience in agile methodologies such as Scrum, SAFe, or Dev Sec Ops .
  • Experience leading technical discussions and mentoring team members.
  • Experience with debugging tools to identify and resolve bugs and optimize code performance.
  • Active, transferable U.S. Secret security clearance required prior to start date; U.S. citizenship required.
Qualifications We Prefer
  • Extensive experience with radar software development or radar concepts.
  • Experience in missile defense programs and large, complex systems.
  • Experience with Atlassian Suite (Bitbucket, Artifactory, JIRA, Confluence), Jenkins, Eclipse, and Ansible.
  • Knowledge of Linux operating systems, particularly Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD environments and pipelines, including Dev Sec Ops .
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and data‑driven decision making in fast‑paced environments.
  • Ability to coach and delegate to junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Proven leadership experience, driving creative solutions to complex technical problems.

Position type:
Onsite. Employees working in Onsite roles work primarily onsite; commuting is the employee’s personal responsibility. This role requires a U.S. government security clearance. DCSA administers the clearance process.

Salary range: $107,500 – $204,500 USD, based on experience. RTX considers role, function, responsibilities, education, training, and key skills when extending offers.
