Senior Principal Systems Engineer

Overview

The Systems Engineering and Test Capabilities (SE&TC) Surface Radars & Sensors Center at Raytheon is seeking a Senior Principal Systems Engineer to support the Missile Defense Sensors (MDS) Department. The role focuses on defining radar system requirements, designing architectures and algorithms, and collaborating with software development teams to ensure effective implementation of missile defense and sensor systems.

• Analyze radar system performance data in relation to requirements.
• Identify performance deficiencies and propose solutions.
• Define and prototype new algorithms to enhance system performance.
• Present plans, designs, and system performance to peers, internal leadership, and external customers.
• Provide subject‑matter expertise to agile software development teams to ensure proper implementation of requirements.

• Electronic protection, signal processing, and applied mathematics.
• Hypersonic threat defense.
• Tracking, discrimination, search, and battle manager interfaces.
• Radar calibration, diagnostics, and deployed site support.
• Modeling and simulation of tactical software.

• Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) or equivalent, with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
• Experience with Matlab, C/C++, Java, or DOORS.
• Experience with systems analysis, algorithms, requirements development, and/or signal‑processing techniques.

• Experience with Battle Management Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence (BMC4I) systems or radar systems.
• Experience with developing, documenting, and maintaining processes, methods, and tools.
• Ability to develop technical solutions to complex issues with analytic, technical, and problem‑solving skills.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience with system‑level requirements development, documentation, and maintenance, and/or design of system‑level software architecture.
• Experience with radar system concepts—detection, discrimination, track, and signal‑processing algorithms and their performance.
• Experience with development and coding of system models, algorithms, test vectors, and analysis tools to analyze radar requirements and performance.
• Experience and interest in Information Assurance/Cyber Engineering requirements, determination, development, and implementation.
• Experience using AI/ML and signal processing in database and algorithm design and enhancement.
• Previous military service.
• Ability to interface with customers and lead technical solutions to complex user needs.
