Cygnet Woking is a private hospital offering a range of mental health services for men and women in a purpose‑built therapeutic environment where the focus is on maximising positive outcomes and recovery. We are currently recruiting for a Maintenance Assistant to carry out day‑to‑day maintenance duties on the fabric of the building, its services and grounds to ensure the hospital is maintained safely and efficiently.

No specific qualifications are required; applicants should have a general background in maintenance work such as carpentry, plumbing, painting and decorating, and ideally possess a valid driver’s licence.

Work 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday 7.30am – 4.00pm with one week in four where you will be expected to work from 9.30am – 6.00pm.

Your Day‑to‑Day
  • Undertake day‑to‑day maintenance and planned remedial works to keep the building, plant and services in working order, keeping records of call‑outs and routine checks as directed.
  • Carry out a range of tasks including basic joinery, plumbing, painting and general building work.
  • Ensure all equipment used is clean and well maintained.
  • Comply with safe working practices and report faulty equipment and potential hazards.
  • Check the fire alarm points weekly, including fire exits, door retaining devices and fire emergency lights.
  • Test and record all portable appliances as specified in Group procedures.
We are looking for people who have…
  • Previous experience working within a team and on your own in a maintenance / building contractors role.
  • Previous experience repairing various equipment and materials, painting, decorating, plumbing, carpentry and basic wiring work.
  • Preferably hold a City & Guilds qualification or equivalent in Carpentry or plumbing.
  • A working knowledge of health and safety requirements and safe working practices.
  • A good practical knowledge in basic plumbing would be an advantage.
  • Fluent in English, both verbal and written.
  • Valid driver’s licence and ability to drive.
