This is an exciting opportunity for individuals looking to forge a career in the brickwork industry. You’ll work alongside experienced professionals who will guide and mentor you, ensuring you develop the skills needed for a successful career in construction.

You will be studying a Level 2 NVQ in Bricklaying, which will include both theory and practical with training on a day release basis one day a week s is a level 2 apprenticeship and will typically take 24 months to complete.

Your time as a Bricklaying Apprentice will be split between working on site with an experienced tradesperson learning from their years of expertise and college-based study that will leave you with the essential industry qualification. It takes time to learn the quality and skills necessary to be the best and we are looking for candidates who are willing to commit the time needed to achieve the best.

Duties
  • Shadowing experienced bricklayers/supervisors to get a feel and understanding of the job role
  • The first 8 weeks will be a probationary period in which the supervisor will assess your work and level you work at – please note we will not advise you to start laying bricks with no prior experience and until the supervisor feels you are ready
  • Measuring the work area and setting out the first rows of bricks (courses) and the damp course
  • Mixing mortar by hand or with a mechanical mixer
  • Laying the bricks on top of each other and applying the mortar with a trowel
  • Shaping and trimming bricks using hammers, chisels and power tools
  • Checking that courses are straight using water or laser spirit levels and plumb lines.
  • Genuine interest in bricklaying or construction
  • Desire to go to a training provider and learn additional theory and practical within this trade
  • Level 1 Maths and English, ideally as part of 5 GCSE A-C grades or equivalent
  • Excellent communication skills, able to work in a team or on your own
  • Enthusiastic and willing
  • Flexible approach to working on different sites
  • Positive, can-do attitude and commitment to quality workmanship
  • Commitment to completing the apprenticeship programme, including attending training sessions and assessments
