Controller - Path to CFO in Wood Dale, Illinois

Controller Position

A well-established commercial General Contractor in Elmhurst is looking to hire a Controller with a defined path into the CFO position. The company has been in business for more than 40 years and is currently going through an exciting period of growth and succession planning. After setting a company revenue record last year, they are on pace to break that record again this year and deliver the strongest year in the firm's history.

Their long-standing CFO is planning to retire within the next 6-12 months, creating a rare opportunity for someone to join the business, work directly alongside the current CFO and senior leadership, and ultimately step into the CFO position.

• Lead the company's day-to-day accounting and financial operations
• Manage, mentor and develop a team of four accounting professionals
• Oversee monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting
• Manage job costing, WIP reporting and percentage-of-completion accounting
• Partner with project teams and leadership on financial performance and forecasting
• Oversee cash flow, budgeting and financial planning
• Maintain relationships with banking, insurance, bonding and external accounting partners
• Identify opportunities to improve financial controls, reporting and processes
• Work closely with the current CFO to understand the company's financial strategy and operations
• Gradually assume broader CFO-level responsibilities ahead of the planned transition

• Strong accounting and finance experience within construction or a General Contractor
• Experience with construction accounting, including WIP, job costing and percentage-of-completion
• Previous experience managing an accounting team
• Ability to operate both strategically and hands-on
• Strong communication skills and the ability to partner with ownership and operational leadership
• Someone interested in becoming a long-term member of the leadership team rather than simply taking another Controller position
