Under the direction of the Senior Regional EHS Manager, the Senior Safety Specialist will promote a culture focused on safety awareness to keep all employees safe and prevent safety accidents through communication, programs, training, policy development, and enforcement.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Plan, implement, monitor, and assess safety programs, processes, policies, and procedures that meet OSHA and other applicable requirements and effectively reduce or eliminate occupational injury and illness.
- Design or change safety policy and processes to minimize or eliminate risk by overseeing or conducting audits, inspections, and investigations of facilities, procedures, and equipment to identify unsafe conditions and coordinate resolution of issues, violations, and hazards.
- Develop and deliver safety training to increase employee awareness of safety requirements and assist department heads and administrators in enforcing safety regulations and codes.
- Manage workers’ compensation cases, including claims and return-to-work accommodations.
- Review and analyze all safety data and reports of all safety recordable accidents or events, and report findings and metrics to senior leadership.
- Define and support activities related to fire prevention, hazardous waste management, resource conservation, or other safety concerns.
- Adhere to all safety procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment and navigating the plant with alert behavior.
- Perform all duties in accordance with safety standards and ensure work areas are kept clean and free of hazards.
- All other duties as assigned by management.
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety or environmental engineering preferred; may substitute with direct applicable work experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
- Knowledge of federal and state occupational, health, and safety regulations, especially OSHA standards.
- Demonstrated success in implementing, improving, and managing programs, communication, training, and reporting related to health and safety in a manufacturing environment.
- Tech‑savvy with MS Office, especially Excel.
- Requires Professional Certification or ability to obtain one within one year:
- GSP – Graduate Safety Professional
- ASP – Associate Safety Professional
- CSP – Certified Safety Professional
- Project management skills
- Effective communication at all levels of organization
- Bilingual Spanish/English a plus
