Role Description
The Lead Installer is a full-time, on-site role based in Wood Dale, IL, responsible for overseeing the installation and integration of audio, video, and related systems in commercial settings. This role leads installation crews, coordinates daily tasks, and ensures all work follows design specifications, safety standards, and project timelines. Day-to-day responsibilities include reading and interpreting technical drawings, installing and terminating cable and equipment, configuring systems, testing performance, and documenting completed work.
The Lead Installer communicates with project managers, engineers, and clients to address technical issues, resolve on-site challenges, and maintain a high level of quality and professionalism. This position also mentors installation team members, provides guidance on best practices, and supports continuous improvement of installation processes.
- Demonstrated experience with installation of audio, video, and integrated technology systems in commercial and/or residential environments.
- Ability to read and interpret system designs, wiring diagrams, construction documents, and technical schematics.
- Strong leadership skills, including supervising installation crews, delegating tasks, and training team members on installation standards.
- Solid understanding of cabling, terminations, equipment mounting, rack building, system configuration, and functional testing.
- Knowledge of basic networking concepts, signal flow, and troubleshooting methods for audio-visual and control systems.
- Commitment to safety practices, including proper use of tools, ladders, lifts, and adherence to jobsite and OSHA guidelines.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills when working with clients, project managers, engineers, and other onsite trades.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities, with a focus on meeting deadlines and maintaining accurate installation documentation.
- Willingness to travel to local and regional job sites, with flexibility for varied schedules based on project needs.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certifications in audio-visual, low-voltage, or related fields are beneficial.
- Previous experience as a lead or senior installer in AV.
