Annual Pay: $46,285.36
This position is responsible for supervising inmates at the county jail.
QualificationsMinimum of 18 years of age
High School diploma or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma
Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship or internship, or having had a similar position for one to two years
Possession or ability to readily obtain GCIC/NCIC Certification
Possession or ability to readily obtain a First-aid and CPR Certification
Possession of a valid state driver's license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a Basic Jailor Certification
Be physically able to intermittently sit, stand, bend, crouch, or stoop
Be able to occasionally lift light and heavy objects
Distinguish between shades of color
Utilize sense of smell
Special RequirementsProcesses and books inmates in the county jail
Conducts security rounds and performs inspections of inmates and facilities; notifies supervisor of maintenance needs or of inmate issues; conducts perimeter checks of the safety complex and government complex
Operates door lock controls to control inmate and staff movement
Performs inmate head counts; maintains inmate count records
Enforces facility rules and regulations; documents infractions and enforces disciplinary measures
Searches inmates and cells for contraband
Issues inmate personal items, meals, uniforms, and other items
Collects and distributes inmate mail
Responds to and renders aid during emergency situations
Supervises inmate work details throughout the safety complex
Performs fingerprinting for the general public
Escorts inmates to scheduled activities; coordinates scheduled visits with inmates
Processes inmate releases
Transports inmates to and from the jail as appropriate
Prepares incident and accident reports
Knowledge of jail administration
Knowledge of inmate security principles
Knowledge of county and agency policies and procedures, and relevant local, state, and federal laws
Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs
Skill in prioritizing and organizing work
Skill in ensuring the safety and security of inmates in the county jail
Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when applicable
Perform other work as required or when directed by supervisors and administration
In the event of an emergency, all Camden County employees are considered essential and may be required to perform alternate duties

Complexity/Scope of Work:
The work consists of related duties in the provision of jail security. Dealing with potentially violent inmates contributes to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to ensure the safety and security of jail inmates, staff, and visitors. Successful performance contributes to the safety and security of the county jail.
