Position SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to support the accounting function through hands‑on involvement in financial reporting, general ledger management, account reconciliations, and financial analysis. This role requires strong technical accounting expertise, ideally with experience in construction accounting and revenue recognition, and the ability to work independently on complex accounting matters.
The Senior Accountant will collaborate closely with the accounting team, project personnel, and leadership while supporting the month‑end and year‑end close processes, financial reporting, compliance, and continuous process improvements. This position offers the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility and grow within a dynamic accounting team.
Key Responsibilities- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities.
- Prepare and post journal entries while maintaining the integrity of the general ledger.
- Complete and review balance sheet and income statement reconciliations, researching and resolving discrepancies.
- Perform variance and trend analyses to identify financial drivers and ensure reporting accuracy.
- Prepare and file sales and use tax returns and other required regulatory filings.
- Manage and reconcile the corporate purchasing card expense program.
- Prepare revenue recognition and Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting using percentage-of-completion accounting methodologies.
- Support accounting and reporting for joint ventures, including reconciliations, financial analysis, and partner reporting.
- Maintain and reconcile union liability accounts.
- Provide accounting support to project teams and operations personnel.
- Assist with insurance‑related accounting analysis and reporting.
- Perform financial analyses and complete special projects to support leadership and business initiatives.
- Collaborate with internal departments and external business partners.
- Assist with external audits by preparing schedules and providing requested documentation.
- Recommend and support improvements to accounting processes, internal controls, and documentation.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience; construction industry experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial statement preparation (IFRS knowledge is a plus).
- Experience preparing journal entries, performing account reconciliations, and conducting financial analysis.
- Knowledge of revenue recognition principles; percentage-of-completion accounting experience preferred.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently and collaborate effectively across teams.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
- Experience with accounting ERP systems; JD Edwards experience is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Demonstrated commitment to teamwork and willingness to support departmental goals as needed.
- Flexibility to work additional hours during month‑end close and reporting periods when required.
