Position Overview

The Data Engineer is critical to the ongoing development and support of Data Warehousing projects for Ascot US. This position will be responsible for the analysis, development, implementation, testing, and ongoing support of Ascot’s data and analytics assets. The ideal candidate has a foundational understanding of data warehouse design including strong SQL/ETL skills, strong attention to detail, and a desire to continue developing technical and analytical skills in an enterprise data environment.

The Data Engineer will interface regularly with business partners across Underwriting, Operations, Finance, Actuarial, and Finance. This role will be in the office with a hybrid work schedule.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with business stakeholders to understand data, reporting, and analytics requirements and translate them into actionable solutions.
  • Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, and data integrations supporting enterprise reporting and analytics.
  • Develop and optimize SQL queries, datasets, and data models to support reporting, analysis, and operational decision-making.
  • Some may build and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards, and semantic models that provide timely and meaningful business insights.
  • Validate, reconcile, and monitor data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency across source systems and reporting outputs.
  • Collaborate with data engineers, business analysts, and subject matter experts to understand business processes, data structures, and reporting needs.
  • Support the testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance of data and reporting solutions, including issue resolution and enhancements.
  • Participate in project planning, requirements gathering, estimation, and solution design activities for data-centric initiatives.
  • Document business requirements, data transformations, reporting logic, and technical processes in accordance with established standards.
  • Identify opportunities to improve data quality, automate manual processes, and enhance reporting capabilities across the organization.

Requirements
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in data analytics, business intelligence, reporting, or data engineering-related roles.
  • Strong SQL development and data analysis skills.
  • Experience with Power BI or similar business intelligence tools preferred.
  • Familiarity with data warehouse concepts, ETL/ELT processes, and dimensional modeling.
