This is a Director of Cyber Defense role sitting within the technology investment and operations arm of a family office, so you're covering multiple portfolio companies, each with its own infrastructure, complexity, and risk profile, rather than a single business.
It's a build role, not a maintain and inherit one. The SOC is coming in-house, and you'll be the one maturing it from there. Scope covers incident response, threat hunting, threat intelligence, insider threat, and digital forensics, built out from the ground up as the team grows.
Director-level, reporting into the CISO, with real scope: strategy, team coaching, and decisions across the portfolio. You don't need to be the most hands-on person in the room, but you need enough technical depth to guide the team credibly and push back when it matters.
On the technical side: strong Microsoft stack experience is ideal, since Sentinel and Defender will be central to how this is built. You should also be past the point of just using AI tools, and instead building agents, automations, and thinking seriously about how agentic approaches change security operations.
Hybrid, 3 days onsite in New Jersey. Paying roughly $275 to 300k base, $400k TC. If you're a bit above or below that, still worth a conversation.
