Job SummaryRutgers University Correctional Health Care is seeking a Part‑Time Staff Nurse for the Adult Diagnostic Treatment Center in Avenel, NJ. The Staff Nurse uses the nursing process to deliver ambulatory care to inmates in the New Jersey Department of Corrections.
Responsibilities- Provide direct and indirect nursing care to meet the physiological, psychosocial, and emotional needs of residents, including adolescents (13‑17 years), adults (18‑64 years), and their families within the correctional system framework.
- Perform assessments of residents in various settings such as initial intake, health‑care unit for sick call, emergency situations in housing, chronic care clinics, and infirmary.
- Work with a multidisciplinary health‑care team and security officers in a correctional environment.
- Identify inmate‑centered goals and nursing objectives; implement prescribed interventions and solutions.
- Plan nursing care based on assessment findings; make timely referrals and initiate care per institutional policies.
- As team leader or charge nurse, delegate duties to other team members based on skill, knowledge, and experience, and guide their care delivery.
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
- License to practice in the State of New Jersey.
- CPR certification required.
- Valid driver’s license required. Must have own vehicle or alternative transportation between sites.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent.
- Minimum one (1) year of experience in a correctional setting.
Must have the physical capacity to perform CPR for at least ten minutes. Physically able to lift and carry an emergency treatment bag weighing up to 45 pounds and assist in lifting and rotating patients who are unable to ambulate (up to 50 pounds).

Base salary range:
Minimum $37,230;
Mid range $46,540;
Maximum $54,050.
Part‑Time: 20 hours per week. Standard full‑time schedule: 40.00 hours. Daily shift:
Day. Full onsite work arrangement required.
