Overview

University Correctional Health Care (UCHC) is part of Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. The facility provides physical, mental health, dental and sex offender treatment services to individuals in New Jersey’s criminal justice system.

Part‑time Staff Nurse – Adult Diagnostic Treatment Center, Avenel, NJ. Supports ambulatory nursing care for inmates in the New Jersey Department of Corrections. Utilizes the nursing process to meet physiological, psychosocial and emotional needs of residents and their families.

• Provides direct and indirect nursing care to inmates (13‑17, 18‑64 years) and their families.
• Performs assessments in intake, sick call, emergency, chronic care clinics and infirmary.
• Collaborates with health‑care professionals and security officers in a correctional environment.
• Identifies inmate‑centered goals, sets nursing objectives, and implements interventions.
• Plans and documents nursing care based on assessments, makes referrals, and initiates appropriate care per policies and procedures.
• When acting as team leader or charge nurse, delegates duties and guides other staff members.

Minimum:
Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing

• Licensed RN in the State of New Jersey.
• CPR certification required.
• Valid driver’s license; must have own vehicle or alternative transportation.

• Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) or equivalent.
• Minimum one year of experience in a correctional setting.

Must be able to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes, lift and carry an emergency treatment bag up to 45 pounds, and assist in lifting and rotating patients up to 50 pounds.

• Minimum Salary: $37,230
• Mid Range Salary: $46,540
• Maximum Salary: $54,050

Position status:
Part‑time, 20 hours per week; full‑onsite arrangement.
