Position Summary (Day Program DSP | IDD Services | Community-Based Support)

Position Overview: The Job Training Specialist/ Skills‑Up Instructor supports adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) in developing vocational, life, and employability skills that promote independence, confidence, and community integration. This role provides hands‑on instruction, coaching, and supervision in community, workplace, and program settings
, helping individuals achieve goals outlined in their service plans.

This is an active, people‑focused role ideal for candidates who enjoy teaching, mentoring, coaching, and skill‑building in real‑world environments.

Required Schedule

Full‑Time: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Qualifications
  • Valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record and ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check
  • Must be comfortable driving agency vehicles on a regular basis, including highway driving
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work
  • At minimum, a high school diploma, GED, or foreign equivalent
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Ability to attend and successfully complete required paid training and maintain annual recertifications
  • Comfortable using computers and electronic systems for documentation, email communication, and data entry
  • Ability to provide professional references during the application process

Requirements

Essential Functions:

  • Pre‑Vocational Skills Training: Teach essential job‑readiness skills, including time management, task sequencing, problem‑solving, decision‑making, and communication.
  • Job Skills Instruction: Provide individualized and group instruction on workplace etiquette, customer service, teamwork, office tasks, manual labor, and light industrial work.
  • Job Readiness Preparation: Assist participants with resume building, interview preparation, and understanding workplace expectations.
  • Support Individualized Learning Plans (ILPs): Develop and implement individualized training plans tailored to each participant’s goals and abilities.
  • Behavioral and Emotional Support: Guide individuals in managing emotions, fostering social interactions, and navigating workplace challenges using positive reinforcement techniques.
