Massaro Community Farm (MCF) is a nonprofit certified organic farm in Woodbridge, CT. Our mission is to Keep Farming, Feed People and Build Community. We grow produce and offer it to the community through seasonal CSA subscriptions, farmers markets, local restaurants and producers; we offer farm-based education programs for youth and adults; and we hold on‑farm community events throughout the year.
We donate at least 10% of our harvest to hunger relief agencies, averaging about 6,500 pounds of produce annually.
MCF has hosted educational programs for all ages since 2012, including a half‑day summer camp. In 2021 we transitioned to a full‑day camp. This summer we will host 20‑45 students each week, ages 5‑9, grouped by age. The Coordinator will supervise all counselors and ensure that all programs run smoothly through oversight, assistance, and communication.
Primary Responsibilities:- Oversee development of camp curriculum and activities
- Lead staff training during the week of June 17, 2024, along with the Summer Camp Administrator
- Supervise 4‑8 Summer Camp Counselors and Counselors in Training
- Ensure counselors have planned and prepared for daily activities and provide ideas as needed
- Provide occasional substitute counseling and lead camp activities as needed
- Supervise 4‑8 Summer Camp Counselors and Counselors in Training
- Coordinate all daily programmatic activities, such as setting up for guest programming or staging areas as requested by counselors
- Set weekly roster of campers based on registration
- Greet parents and ensure proper check‑in and check‑out of campers each day
- Maintain daily first‑aid logs and properly administer campers’ medications
- Communicate with the Summer Camp Administrator and Farm Director about any problems or issues as needed
- Liaise with Farm Staff to ensure that spaces in the barn and other communal areas of the farm are shared well
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous direct experience working with children in an instructional program, preferably outdoors
- Experience developing or planning activities, games, or educational curriculum for children
- Ability to work with children 5‑9 from a variety of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds
- Interest and curiosity in farming, forestry, agroecology, or gardening
- Comfort working around farm animals (chickens, goats, rabbits, pigs)
- Comfort working outside in a variety of weather conditions
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
- Positive and clear communication skills
- Creative problem‑solving skills and flexibility
- Organized and proactive
- Ability to pass a background check
- Fully vaccinated against COVID‑19
- Previous leadership experience at a summer camp or comparable setting
- Current First Aid/CPR certification (training can be provided if not current)
- Current certification to administer topical and oral medication (training can be provided if not current)
- This is an hourly position with a pay rate of $18‑20/hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
- The Coordinator will work 40‑45 hours per week from June 24‑August 2, with an anticipated schedule of 7:45 am‑4 pm. Part‑time hours can begin as early as May 13. At least 30 hours of work are required for the week of June 17 during staff training.
- The Summer Camp Program Coordinator reports directly to the Farm Director.
- All work will take place on the farm at 41 Ford Road, Woodbridge, CT 06525.
