Mechanical Engineering Intern

Are you eager to dive into the world of product development and gain hands‑on experience in mechanical engineering? Sed Med is offering a summer internship opportunity tailored just for you!

At , we are dedicated to promoting the safety and independence of individuals with mobility impairments. Through innovative product solutions, we aim to enhance the quality of life for our customers and users. Our primary product is the Sed Med Toilet Lift Assist, a gas‑spring powered lift that mounts onto standard US toilets and assists individuals with getting on and off the toilet.

It features a slow lowering mechanism to ease users down and provides a natural yet effective boost, allowing users to lift up to 80% of their body weight. As a mechanical engineering intern at Sed Med, you will have the opportunity to contribute directly to this mission while honing your skills and gaining valuable experience.

• Participate in building, testing, and servicing Sed Med products in the office.
• Assisting with the design process for product improvements and accessories.
• Visiting eldercare facilities and rehab hospitals to install Sed Med Toilet Lifts and learn about our customer base.

Throughout the summer, you will engage in a comprehensive design project, including:

• Meeting with Sed Med advisers, customers, and end‑users to gather insights and feedback.
• Collaborating with engineers and advisers to work on a new product addressing customer needs.
• Learning about the patent writing process and participating in meetings with patent lawyers.
• Participating in discussions with manufacturers to understand the manufacturing process.

• Currently enrolled in a college‑level or graduate‑level mechanical engineering program.
• Passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of individuals with mobility impairments.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic environment.
• Basic knowledge of mechanical design principles and fabrication techniques.

• Hands‑on experience in product development from conception to prototype.
