The Arc of Greater Prince William/INSIGHT, Inc. is a respected non-profit provider of residential, recreation, and day services for individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD), and is seeking a Childcare Supervisor. This position is located at our Muriel Humphrey Child Care Center (MHCC) in Woodbridge, VA 22193.

The position is full-time, 35 hours per week. Schedule:
Monday - Friday 5:30am-12:30pm, with flexibility to cover closing at 6:30pm when the Director is off. Rate of pay $18/hour.

General Description

Under the general supervision of the Program Director, the Supervisor will be responsible for the Center’s program in the absence of the Director, supervise childcare staff members, and ensure the safety and well-being of the children.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist in the planning, development, and implementation of the childcare program.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of the children served.
  • Ensure licensing requirements, Health Department and Fire Code regulations are always met.
  • Serve as a role model for the children.
  • Help children with their self-care requirements.
  • Work directly with the children in implementing the Center’s program.
  • Maintain routine record keeping.
  • Administer and document all medication and medical treatments.
  • Supervise and evaluate the direct care staff.
  • Act as a key link between the Center and the child’s family.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director.
Supervisor Qualifications

Program leaders shall be at least 18 years of age, have completed a high school program or equivalent, and meet one of the following:

  • Have one of the program director qualifications in 8

    VAC;
    OR
  • Hold an endorsement or bachelor's degree in a child-related field such as elementary education, nursing, or recreation;
    OR
  • Have three months of programmatic experience and at least one of the following educational backgrounds:
    • A one-year early childhood certificate from a college or university consisting of at least 30 semester hours;
      OR
    • A child development credential by an organization listed in § 22. of the Code of Virginia;
      OR
    • A teaching diploma from an internationally or nationally recognized Montessori organization;
      OR
  • Have six months of supervised programmatic experience.
  • Required Skills / Abilities
    • Maintain a driver's license and acceptable driving record.
    • Be insurable under agency automobile insurance policy.
    • Complete pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED training and maintain certification every two years.
    • Complete pediatric Medication training.
    • Pass acceptable criminal background checks and TB health screening.
    • Establish a good rapport with children.
    • Establish and maintain a good working relationship with coworkers.
    • Complete all required trainings as needed.
    • Proficient computer skills.
    • Strong communication skills (verbally and written) with all levels of personnel, internal and external to the agency.
    • Comfortable assisting individuals with hygiene and medical routines.
    • Capable of carrying out assigned responsibilities.
    • Capable of accepting training and supervision.
    • Capable of communicating with emergency personnel.
    • For staff who drive vehicles transporting children, disclose any moving traffic violations that occurred five years prior to or during employment.
    • Knowledge of the groups served and skills specific to the special needs of the children in care, including functional abilities, accommodations, assessment techniques, behavior management, and medical and health concerns.
    • Physically able to drive an agency vehicle.
    • Free of TB in the communicable form.
    • Physically able to lift children to a changing table or lower children to a changing mat on the floor.
    • Able to assist children with evacuation.
    • Able to assist children in wheelchairs.
    • Physically capable of lifting 60 pounds.
    • Physically able to perform CPR and first aid.
    • Ability to handle physical aspects of job, including bending, stooping, lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching, and walking for periods of time.
