Position Title:
2ND GRADE TEACHER – 195 DAY – Days: 195 – Full Time
This position plans and implements an instructional program and provides related educational services for students in grades K‑5. The teacher manages student behavior, assesses and evaluates student achievement, and modifies instructional activities as required. The role may be solo, team, or departmental, and may involve reading or technology labs under the supervision of a principal or designated administrator.
Essential Responsibilities- Implements an instructional program that provides appropriate learning for each student by differentiating instruction.
- Plans and delivers instruction in adherence to Prince William County Curriculum documents for specific teaching assignments.
- Assesses student abilities relative to desired educational goals, objectives, and outcomes.
- Plans appropriate instructional and learning strategies, including determination of classroom organizational structures, materials, and learning principles.
- Manages behavior of learners in instructional settings, ensuring an environment conducive to learning; participates in the management of student behavior across school grounds and during lunch.
- Cooperates with and participates in planning and evaluation of the school program.
- Requests assistance from resource personnel and works cooperatively to ensure an appropriate learning environment for all students.
- Participates in the school and division professional development program.
- Coordinates instructional activities and collaborates with other professional staff, both school‑based and non‑school‑based, to maximize learning opportunities.
- Adheres to the ethics of the profession.
- Supports and promotes parent/teacher or parent/student organizations.
- Enforces policies and regulations established by the Prince William County School Board and staff.
- Supervises pupil activity in buildings and on grounds during and after school hours, ensuring conduct and safety of students in the classroom and on school grounds.
- Demonstrates prompt and accurate written communications and reports.
- Adheres to county and school disciplinary procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment for assigned grade levels or instructional specialties.
- Knowledge of child growth and development.
- Knowledge of Prince William County Public Schools curricula, program of studies, public school mission, goals, and organization.
- Ability to apply current research and theory to instructional programs.
- Ability to plan and implement lessons using the Standards‑Based Instructional Planning Process and based on division and school objectives and student needs.
- Ability to utilize multimedia and computer technology appropriately.
- Skilled in oral and written communication; excellent human‑relations skills.
- For music instruction: ability to demonstrate singing/choral techniques, movement, instrument proficiency, and piano instruction skills.
- For visual‑art instruction: personal portfolio demonstrating artistic ability and experience in a variety of media.
- Minimum education:
Bachelor’s Degree (Higher education preferred). - Certification:
State collegiate professional, post‑graduate professional, or appropriate vocational license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia with required endorsements. - Valid automobile operator’s license required for off‑site tasks or itinerant responsibilities.
The work is performed in a standard indoor classroom or office setting. The teacher may be exposed to short‑term noise, computer screens, and normal classroom environmental conditions.
