Job Summary

This position plans and implements an instructional program and provides related educational services for students in grades K-5. This position manages student behavior, assesses and evaluates student achievement, and modifies instructional activities as required and carries out a variety of student monitoring and control activities. This position, covered by this specification, serves as a general education, elementary classroom teacher (K-5); classes taught may be single or team or departmental setting, but a teacher might work independently in a unique teaching specialty.

This position may be assigned to reading or technology labs. This position performs work under the general supervision of a principal and or other designated administrator.

The Title I Elementary Literacy Teacher is responsible for supporting Tier I and Tier II literacy instruction aligned with Virginia Department of Education (VDOE)-approved High Quality Instructional materials and interventions. This position collaborates with school Reading Specialists and school leadership to provide targeted literacy support without supplanting existing staffing or roles within school district allocations. The teacher will serve as a K-5 literacy teacher, focusing on assisting teachers with differentiated instruction, data-driven decision-making, and coaching practices to accelerate student learning in accordance with Title I, Part A grant requirements and PWCS policies.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with Reading Specialists and collaborate with school leadership to develop and implement effective Tier 1 and Tier II literacy instruction, ensuring equitable access & alignment with high‑quality instructional materials (HQIM) approved by the PWCS Student Learning Department and the VDOE.
  • Provide co‑teaching opportunities and/or Tier II reading intervention support based on school needs.
  • Demonstrate expertise in interpreting formal and informal diagnostic data to inform instruction for acceleration and provide targeted interventions.
  • Support classroom teachers in Tier 1 and Tier II literacy instruction to enhance instructional practices and student outcomes.
  • Collaborate with school and division programs (e.g., ESOL, SPED, Gifted) to support literacy instruction across all student groups, ensuring equitable access to high‑quality education.
  • Serve as a liaison between the school and Title I administration, ensuring compliance with all Title I, Part A grant requirements, including family engagement activities and fiscal management of Title I funds.
  • Prepare and maintain required documentation for Title I, Part A grant compliance, including but not limited to agendas, meeting minutes, intent forms, and student data, adhering to established timelines.
  • Participate in professional development at the school and division levels, disseminating information and instructional strategies to school staff to support continuous improvement in literacy instruction.
  • Facilitate data‑driven conversations with teachers, administrators, and parents, presenting assessment data in an understandable manner and providing actionable steps for future Tier II instructional intervention.

    Job Responsibilities
    • Manage the behavior of learners in an instructional setting to ensure the environment is conducive to the learning process and assist and participate in the management of student behavior in other parts of the school, school grounds, and during lunch; this will not include the duty‑free lunch, except in emergency situations; no student should be left alone.
