Adjunct Faculty

Adjunct postings are pool postings, meaning that when there is a need, the divisions pull from the applicants that have applied to this position. Teaching load is based upon student enrollment and staffing needs. The adjunct faculty appointment contains no guarantee of continued employment. Must reside in the (DC, VA, MD) DMV area.
Adjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in the designated discipline/field of study to students from a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences. Teaching may include a variety of formats: face to face, remote, and online. Adjunct faculty are employed to teach up to 12 credit hours in the fall and spring semester and/or up to 8 credit hours during summer session.
Teaching load is based on student enrollment and staffing needs. The adjunct faculty contract contains no expectation or guarantee of continued employment.
Duties and Tasks:
- Teach specific classes in the designated discipline.
- Develop course syllabi and instructional materials.
- Maintain records, assign grades, and assess student progress.
- Adhere to policies, procedures, and regulations of NOVA and the VCCS.
- Maintain current competence in the particular discipline or field of specialization.
Special Assignments
- May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications - KSA's:
- Ability to demonstrate HVACR theory and practical application
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent analytical skills
- Excellent oral/written communication skills
- The ability to relate basic principles to students
- Ability to use instructional technology
- Ability to present course material in a manner commensurate with students' level of learning.
Required Qualifications:
- Associate's degree in the teaching field with demonstrated competencies OR appropriately related education and/or occupational certifications combined with substantial related experience in the occupational field.
- Qualifying academic degrees and coursework must be awarded by and/or completed with a regionally accredited institution.
- A minimum of two years of full-time, related occupational experience. Part-time occupational experience will be converted to its full-time equivalent.
- Valid Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Universal Certification (EPA
40CF

Additional Considerations:
- Master HVAC license
- 10 years field experience
- Prior experience teaching in higher education
- Experience teaching in classroom, hybrid, and online formats.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive working and learning environment.
- Experience teaching students from diverse language backgrounds and varying levels of proficiency.
