Salary Range: $21.12 – $33.82 per hour ($27,793 – $44,503 annually)
Job SummaryThis paraprofessional position assists the classroom teacher in performing a variety of tasks after training, including emergency plans, health-related plans/services, and instructional procedures. The teacher assistant works directly under the supervision of the teacher, building administrator, and Special Education Department administrator, and interacts positively with students, parents, and staff.
Essential Responsibilities- Develop understanding of each student’s disability and maintain required training and certifications.
- Maintain student confidentiality.
- Deliver non-emergency health-related services per the student’s Health Treatment Plan.
- Perform emergency treatment procedures as needed.
- Apply universal precautions when handling student bodily fluids.
- Prepare instructional materials and assist with attendance and cumulative records.
- Work with individual students or small groups under teacher direction.
- Assist with classroom management plans.
- Model courteous and proper school behavior.
- Check student work, including objective test materials.
- Cooperate with substitute teachers to provide instruction and assistance.
- Assist with housekeeping chores and bulletin boards.
- Supervise students during school-sponsored activities throughout the day.
- Assist in the safe mobilization of all students, including those physically disabled.
- Assist with clerical tasks and maintain inventory of materials and media equipment.
- Assist students with dressing, toileting, braces, and personal hygiene; change and launder soiled clothing when required.
- Assist during seizures or other medical incidents and provide follow-up assistance after training.
- Assist in feeding students who cannot feed themselves.
- Provide supervision at all times, including during teacher planning, meetings, lunch, etc.
- Support the teacher’s consistent approach to interacting with disabled students.
- Accompany students to mainstream classes or remain with non-mainstream students as directed.
- Ability to work with students at various ability levels.
- Effective communication with students, teachers, parents, and school personnel.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions related to instructional, behavioral, emergency, and health-related plans and services.
- Minimum education:
High School or GED. - At least 1 year of teacher assistant or similar paid/volunteer work, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Physically report to work on site.
- Work 7 hours each day, 188 days per school year, full-time.
- Must be proficient with relevant technology.
- Must participate in the annual professional growth planning process.
- Must perform work under direct supervision of the teacher and administrator.
