Salary range: $21.12-$33.82 per hour ($27,793-$44,503 per year). Days: 188. Employment:
Full Time.
This paraprofessional position requires a teacher assistant to support the classroom teacher in executing instructional, emergency, health-related, and behavioral plans after training. The role is performed under the direct supervision of the teacher, building administrator, and Special Education Department administrator and involves interaction with students, parents, and staff in a positive manner.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES- Develops understanding of each student’s specific disability; maintains proper training and certification if required.
- Maintains confidentiality of student information.
- Delivers non-emergency health-related services as specified by the student’s Health Treatment Plan.
- Delivers emergency treatment procedures on students as needed.
- Utilizes universal precautions whenever student body fluids are present.
- Prepares instructional materials.
- Assists with attendance and cumulative record keeping.
- Works with individual students or small groups at the teacher’s direction.
- Assists with classroom management plan.
- Acts as a role model for courtesy and proper school behavior.
- Checks student work, including objective test materials.
- Works cooperatively with the substitute teacher to provide instruction and assistance to students.
- Assists with housekeeping chores and bulletin boards.
- Assists or supervises students during any school-sponsored activity occurring during the school day.
- Assists in the safe and orderly mobilization of all students, including those physically disabled, to and from all school environments.
- Assists with clerical tasks, maintains inventory of materials, and manages procurement and use of media equipment.
- Assists students with dressing, toileting, braces, and personal hygiene; in case of accidents, may be required to change and launder soiled clothing.
- Assists students during seizures or other medical incidents and follows up as required.
- Assists in feeding students who are unable to feed themselves.
- Supervises students at all times.
- Supports the teacher’s efforts to provide a consistent approach in interacting with disabled students.
- Provides coverage when the teacher is planning, meeting, lunch, etc.
- Accompanies students to mainstreamed class or remains with non-mainstream students as directed.
- Work collaboratively with all stakeholders in launching thriving futures and establish effective working relationships.
- Communicate effectively and interact with a non-traditional and diverse student and employee population.
- Report to work on a regular and punctual basis as scheduled.
- Participate in the annual professional growth planning process.
- Maintain high standards of personal and professional conduct as a public trust position.
- Ability to work with various ability levels of students.
- Skillful in effectively communicating with students, teachers, parents, and other personnel.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions and directions related to instructional, behavioral, emergency, and health-related plans and services.
Education:
Minimum – High School diploma or GED. Preferred – any additional education.
Work Experience:
Minimum – 1 year in teacher assistant or related paid/volunteer work; preferred – 3-5 years.
Certification:
No specific certification required beyond any relevant training; ongoing relevant training is required.
Work Environment:
Indoor classroom or school environment; exposure to minor inconveniences such as noise or heating/cooling variations.
