- High school diploma or GED required
- Two (2) years technical degree or equivalent experience preferred
- Three (3) to Five (5) years progressive heavy equipment maintenance experience required
- ASE Transit Certifications preferred with an expectation to pursue additional certifications
- Additional training from mechanical/technical schools, courses or seminars desirable
- Experience with heavy equipment required
- Understanding of all systems onboard the fleet transportation vehicles
- Component/System understanding:
Air Conditioning, Brakes, Engine, Transmission, Suspension and Steering, Electrical, Fuel, Lubrication, and Differentials - Experience with complex diagnostic computer equipment and software required
- Must have an in-depth understanding of the design, adjustment, and overhaul of ADA equipment, air conditioning, brakes, chassis, cooling system, engine, interior/exterior lighting, gauges and controls, safety equipment, fire suppression system and sensitive edges, tires and transmissions
- Must be able to work amid constant interruptions, prioritize and be detail oriented
- Must have leadership skills and ability to mentor and provide instruction
- Must have good communication skills, ability to both verbally and in written format document questions and diagnostic information to management personnel
- Must be able to perform physical activities including working on top of coaches and lifting up to 75 pounds
- Must be flexible and work in a 24/7 environment
- Must have clean driving record and a Commercial Driver’s License
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check
- Detect, diagnose and repair coaches concentrating on major complex problems including ADA equipment, air conditioning, brakes, chassis, cooling system, engine, lighting, safety equipment, fire suppression system, tires and transmissions
- Perform in-house and road call coach repairs using various hand, power, pneumatic and precision tools
- Perform upgrades and/or modifications on coach systems and equipment per manufacturer recommendations or client requests
- Utilize computer diagnostic equipment (e.g., Cummins Insite, Allison prognostics) and complex electrical schematics to diagnose and troubleshoot coach electrical functions
- Research and evaluate coach problems; provide comprehensive analysis to management in written and oral formats
- Assist Foreman in tracking trends, parts usage and costs using work orders and maintenance records
- Test coaches for proper working order including road-driving tests
- Fill out work orders detailing parts and labor
