Position: Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant (PRN/Pool)

Position Overview

Full Time Medical Director (Weekdays, Monday‑Friday). This role supports interdisciplinary treatment team meetings and includes rotations of primary service coverage across each unit. Must be willing to do 7p‑7a Night Shifts, cover units for urgent issues, and complete overnight new evaluations.

What You’ll Do

We are hiring a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to direct, coordinate, and provide medical/clinical services to specified individuals (youth and adults) within the facility.

Responsibilities include:

  • Serves as the attending clinician for specified individuals; conducts initial psychiatric assessments, crisis interventions, family interventions, focused crisis diagnostic assessments, capacity assessments, risk assessments, education, progress monitoring, and discharge planning.
  • Documents progress in the clinical record, including admission orders, progress notes, and discharge orders; oversees medication education and consent.
  • Orders laboratory tests; reviews nursing assessments; obtains medical history; conducts focused physical examinations as indicated.
  • Initiates contact with Primary Care Physicians and Emergency Room clinicians; assesses needs and guides the clinical team while updating treatment plans.
  • Collaborates with other personnel to ensure appropriate treatment modalities and coordinates with external providers and the legal system for involuntary evaluation and treatment.
  • Participates in medical staff meetings, regional and quarterly meetings, and any meetings requested by Medical Leadership.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Bring
  • Unrestricted Registered Nursing license in the State of Virginia or hold a multistate license.
  • Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program with a Master’s level certification in Psychiatric Mental Health (PMHNP).
  • Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) designation by the Virginia Joint Boards.
  • Licensed by the Virginia Board of Nursing and National Certifications.
  • Unrestricted DEA license and registered with the Virginia Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP); must hold current Schedule III authority.
  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program; licensed by the Virginia Board of Medicine and National Certification.
  • Unrestricted DEA license.
  • Proficiency in Safe Clinch patient restraint techniques.
  • Completion of all credentialing requirements within the required period: NPI, Medallion enrollment, Medicare enrollment, and other necessary credentials.
  • State of Virginia Fingerprint Clearance.
  • Ability to pass VA DBHDS and VA DSS background checks.
