OverviewSentara Northern Virginia Medical Center is hiring a Nursing Professional Development Specialist - Perioperative. The Nursing Professional Development Specialist is a registered nurse with advanced expertise and clinical experience, responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs for nursing staff and healthcare teams. This role involves teaching advanced clinical skills, fostering professional development, and ensuring adherence to evidence‑based practices.
The Specialist also designs training materials, provides mentorship, and conducts in‑service education sessions to enhance nursing knowledge and performance. The position requires advanced clinical knowledge, strong communication skills, and a deep commitment to enhancing nursing education and patient care.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate educational programs for nursing staff and healthcare teams.
- Teach advanced clinical skills and foster professional development among staff.
- Design training materials and conduct in‑service education sessions.
- Provide mentorship and support staff development from beginner to expert status.
- Critically analyze care delivered in the perioperative service area against evidence‑based practice standards and seek ways to improve outcomes.
- Lead, facilitate, and/or participate in interprofessional quality initiatives and implement evidence‑based nursing practices.
- Minimum MLD – Master’s Level Degree (required)
- 3 years clinical experience (required)
- Perioperative experience (preferred)
- Valid RN license in the state of practice (required)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required for Intermediate and Critical Care Units (required)
