Position: Infusion Nurse Practitioner and/or Physician Assistant (NP/PA)

The Oncology Advanced Practice Provider - Woodbridge operates under general supervision and in accordance with APP standardized procedures and protocol.

Infusion Nurse Practitioner and/or Physician Assistant (NP/PA) job responsibilities:
  • Conduct in‑depth interviews with patients, construct comprehensive medical histories, perform physical examinations, and explore patients’ interpretations of health needs related to their diagnoses.
  • Ensure patient information, visit history, referrals, lab follow‑up, phone calls and consults are carefully and completely documented in the electronic medical record.
  • Evaluate and manage patients with urgent complaints, determining appropriate disposition and escalating to hospital‑based care when necessary.
  • Evaluate infusion patients during treatment, including management of infusion‑related reactions and acute treatment‑related side effects.
  • Directly perform or order appropriate diagnostic studies and interpret finished results.
  • Instruct and counsel patients and families regarding preventive care, medical and psychological problems, and use of prescribed treatments and drugs.
  • Write orders to increase, decrease or change medications.
  • Identify and record pertinent patient progress, update and summarize charts, adjust orders when appropriate and notify the responsible provider of changes in the patient’s condition.
  • Educate and coach fellow staff members, including RNs and clinical technicians.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education: Master’s in advanced clinical practice or graduate of a post‑master’s certificate program for nurse practitioners. For physician assistants, graduate of an accredited physician assistant program and certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) upon start.
  • Licensure: Licensed nurse practitioner or physician assistant; if a nurse practitioner, RN Compact License (depending on state of primary residence), a license or eligibility for nurse practitioner or physician assistant in Virginia, a signed practice agreement with sponsoring/ supervising physician(s), a signed scope of practice protocol, and a DEA license if prescribing controlled substances.
  • Payer Credentialing: Ability to successfully complete credentialing with third‑party payors and enroll as a CMS Medicare/Medicaid payor.
  • Medical Staff Credentialing: Successful completion of credentialing for medical staff membership and appropriate clinical privileges sufficient to perform all required services.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience:

    2 years of advanced practice oncology experience preferred but not required.
