Victim Witness Case Manager
Salary Range: $60,000-$68,000 / year
The Prince William County Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney Victim Witness Program is seeking candidates to fill a Victim Witness Case Manager position. The chief objective of this position is to reduce the trauma of victimization and encourage crime victims to cooperate with and participate in the criminal justice system by providing direct services and other program support services as outlined in the Virginia Crime Victim and Witness Rights Act.
Tasks and Duties:
- Perform administrative activities for the Program including drafting correspondence; maintaining client and program records; data entry; reception services.
- Provide written materials to victims and witnesses which explain how to obtain the program's services and summarize victim and witness rights established by the Crime Victim and Witness Rights Act.
- Provide explanations of criminal justice and courtroom procedures, assist in completion and filing of Virginia Victims Fund (VVF) applications. Act as a liaison between victim and VVF; provide follow up on claims.
- Maintain a system to assist victims in minimizing unnecessary trips to court, provide disposition information to victims and witnesses; provide information and assistance to facilitate notice of judicial proceedings and prisoner status; provide employer and other intercession services; provide escort and other transportation services (e.g., reservations, reimbursements) related to the adjudication of a case.
- Provide accompaniment to court hearings, motions, meetings with prosecutors and law enforcement. Assist victims in completing Request for Confidentiality forms. As appropriate, assist in obtaining interpreter services for victims. Coordinate with appropriate personnel to facilitate closed preliminary hearings and/or use of closed-circuit testimony.
- Assist victims with completion and submission of Victim Impact Statements to the court, to include translation of written statements.
- Assist victims in seeking and securing restitution by providing information about local procedures and referrals to appropriate personnel.
- Assist in the prompt return of property held for evidentiary purposes. Direct victims to law enforcement agencies for the purpose of obtaining crime prevention services.
Position Requirements:
- This position requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and at least one year of experience in a human service delivery program providing direct services and case management. This position requires working knowledge of case management and crisis intervention techniques.
- Equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. Valid driver's license is also required. Required background check will include criminal record and driving record.
