Special Education Program Coordinator

The primary purpose of this position is to provide support and technical assistance to the special education instructional and support staff working with identified special education students. Bilingual Spanish preferred.

Minimum qualifications include a bachelor's degree, background and criminal history clearance, valid Oregon teaching license with applicable special education endorsements and authorization levels, successful special education teaching experience, high level of communication skills in English and if applicable, in Spanish or Russian, skill in leadership and facilitation, excellent organizational skills, ability to understand and follow instructions, qualified to conduct cognitive testing, knowledge of first and second language acquisition, human growth and development, student behavior management methods, principles of effective instruction, federal and state special education law and regulations.

Essential functions include communicating effectively in English and Spanish or Russian, advising teachers concerning procedural compliance with special education law, serving as case manager and district representative for students in programs outside of the district, providing learning support services, coordinating services for identified students, working with student assistance teams, orienting and communicating program information to special education staff, observing instruction and program implementation, providing support and training for special education procedures, record keeping system requirements, State Testing Options, assisting and guiding classroom teachers, coordinating staff development activities, making recommendations concerning purchase and use of equipment and materials, conducting academic and cognitive student assessments, developing and submitting reports, following safety rules, demonstrating support for district core values, establishing and maintaining a positive and respectful learning environment, assisting parents and community members, demonstrating an awareness of and sensitivity to multicultural and multilingual values and environments, complying with professional development activities, actively seeking out and participating in professional development activities, participating in various meetings, holding expectations for high performance, assessing results of performance for improvement, demonstrating computer literacy, maintaining accurate and confidential records, maintaining the integrity of confidential information, following all laws, district policies, rules, regulations, adhering to the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission Standards for Competent and Ethical Educators, maintaining regular attendance and punctuality.

Other requirements include being dressed and groomed in a neat, clean, and appropriate professional manner, working primarily indoors in school buildings and offices with some outdoor work or supervision, responsible for own travel and reimbursed for approved mileage, possible exposure to bodily fluids due to student or employee illness or injury, may be required to obtain a First Aid and/or CPR Card and serve as a Delegated Caregiver or Designated First Aid Provider, occasionally performing other duties as required by supervisor.

Terms of employment include a current work year of approximately 191-201 days, subject to change, may include extended contract hours or days, salary and benefits based on current District Salary Schedule and negotiated agreement.
