• Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and supervise individual patient care on the surgical ICU unit/department according to unit policies and procedures.
• Provide supervision of non-RN personnel on the assigned unit; when assuming the charge role, delegate and supervise unit activities.
• Assist as a preceptor for new staff and coordinate with the nurse manager/clinical coordinator.
• Perform additional duties as assigned or requested to maintain a high level of service.
• Maintain competency in neuro patient care, including neuro assessment, airway management for neuro patients, and tracheal management (pharyngeal, endotracheal, tracheostomy suctioning).
• Use a halo brace and manage ventilator nursing as required.
• Participate in specialty neuro procedures and the ‘Tia’ Teaching Program.
• Document the plan of care, evaluate effectiveness, revise as needed, and make referrals when indicated.
• Plan and provide education to patients and families based on assessment of learning needs and readiness.
• Use electronic patient records and conduct literature searches as needed for evidence‑based care.
• Fulfill customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, staff, and self‑development responsibilities as outlined in performance review.

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (BSN preferred).
• Proficient in the use of computer software, including electronic patient records.
• Must have ability to use the Internet for literature searches regarding patient care.

• Med/Surg RN experience required.

• Valid State of Connecticut Registered Nurse License.

• BLS required.
