MEPT Estimator I
Mortenson is currently seeking a MEPT Estimator I - Electrical who will be responsible for leading estimating efforts, gathering, calculating, and compiling data to produce project estimates for a small or medium project or in support of a lead estimator on a larger project. This role is located at our Headquarters in MN. Visa sponsorship is not offered for this position and the applicant must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship for employment visa status (H1B, O‑1, TN, CPT, OPT, etc.).
SummaryLead the estimating process, organize plans, and collaborate with the project team and estimating leadership to ensure accurate, margin‑aligned estimates.
Responsibilities- Organize, plan, and schedule estimate preparation, facilitating necessary meetings.
- Prepare comprehensive and reliable estimates, incorporating all relevant information.
- Collaborate with project team and estimating leadership to determine trade partner strategy and prepare invitations to bid/budget.
- Obtain relevant documents, including BIM, to complete quantity survey and understand project scope.
- Ensure complete quantity survey of materials/resources required for the project.
- Utilize cost history to inform scope, pricing, and productivities.
- Work with Project Sponsor and Estimating Leaders to ensure estimates meet margin goals and prepare margin plan for approval.
- Prepare for and participate in Bid Day or presentation to owner.
- Build and maintain relationships with Operations Personnel, design partners, trade partners, and owners.
- Develop industry knowledge base through available resources, trade journals, conferences, and projects.
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in Estimating, Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent field experience.
- Construction industry experience preferred.
- Ability to perform quantity survey for a MEPT system (Mechanical/Plumbing or Electrical/Technology).
- Gain knowledge and understanding of one scope (M/P or E/T).
- Contact and scope trade partners for area of focus.
- Contact equipment vendors for pricing and delivery schedule.
- Prepare budget breakdown form for MEPT trade partner proposals on small projects.
- Build and maintain relationships with trade partners for focused area.
- Create list of potential trade partners for assigned projects.
- Awareness of potential code impacts due to new code adoption.

The base pay range for this role is $78,800.00 MIN - $98,500.00 MAX. The actual range is higher for the following office locations:
Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%;
Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%;
Washington, D.C. – 12.5%. Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson's incentive plan.
