The Park Rapids High School Fine Arts department is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Co Assistant Speech Coach for the upcoming seasonal speech competition program at Park Rapids High School. The ideal candidate will have a passion for speech and debate, a strong commitment to student development, and the ability to work collaboratively with the head coach and other team members.

This position offers an exciting opportunity to inspire and guide students in honing their public speaking and performance skills.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the head speech coach in planning and executing practice sessions and workshops.
  • Provide individualized coaching to students in various speech categories, including but not limited to, dramatic interpretation, humorous interpretation, and original oratory.
  • Help develop and refine students’ speech content, delivery techniques, and performance skills.
  • Collaborate with the head coach to organize and manage team meetings, practices, and competitions.
  • Attend and support students at local, regional, and state speech competitions.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive team environment that encourages student participation and growth.
  • Maintain communication with students and parents regarding schedules, expectations, and performance updates.
  • Assist with administrative tasks related to the speech program, including record-keeping and competition registration.
Requirements
  • Previous experience in speech, debate, or competitive performance is preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively connect with students and colleagues.
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback and encouragement to students.
  • A commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for all team members.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, during the competition season.
  • A background in education, theater, or communications is a plus.
  • Must pass a background check as required by school district policies.
