Job Summary

Under the direction of the Community Education Director, the Early Childhood Coordinator is responsible for the management, delivery and evaluation of comprehensive services for families and children from birth to age 5 including Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE), early childhood screening, and related programming. The Early Childhood Coordinator will ensure the smooth transition between home and school and that an educational atmosphere is provided where children will enter kindergarten ready to learn.

The Early Childhood Coordinator will also work with the public and community to promote awareness of programs, strengthen programs, and address community needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plans, implements and monitors the daily operations and programs of Early Childhood Family Education and serves as a classroom teacher for a variety of ECFE programs.
  • Plans, evaluates and monitors program operations to assure compliance with MN statutes, DHS guidelines and best practices in the area of early childhood education.
  • Promotes the integration of early childhood programming with K-12.
  • Plans, develops, and determines course offerings and content. Works collaboratively with administration to set course fees and sliding fee scales.
  • Works with ECSE staff to provide high quality programming for all learners.
  • Prepares and/or coordinates the preparation of various program reports and statistical summaries to MDE.
  • Performs public relation activities and creates communications to promote the ECFE and School Readiness programs and services.
  • Provides direct instructional support in preschool classrooms through the implementation of early learning language stations and English language assessments.
  • Assist in the early childhood screening process for resident families, including completing the screening, submitting referrals and following up with families. Assists families with the transition among early childhood programs in response to family needs and to K-12 when age eligible.
  • Coordinates and leads all Early Childhood special events such as Early Childhood Family Nights, Early Childhood Open gym, Early Childhood Picnic, etc. Coordinates and facilitates creating staffing schedules, parent registrations, marketing, ordering materials, planning and evaluating special events.
  • Connects with parents and families on a regular basis to establish a positive relationship and provide support in the planning and feedback of all early childhood programs and services. Serves on the Community Education Advisory Council to provide updates and gather feedback. Evaluates program effectiveness and analyzes program data and surveys to ensure continuous program improvement.
  • Performs other duties of a comparable level or type, as required.
  • Keeps abreast of changing developments, trends, and technologies within the field.
  • Participates in staff development and professional development activities.
  • Collaborates with other teaching and licensed professionals in addressing the needs and the integration of early childhood programs and services.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Early Childhood Education or related discipline applicable to teaching assignment required.
  • State of Minnesota Teaching Certification in Early Childhood Education required.
  • State of Minnesota Parent Education License required.
  • Successful prior early childhood teaching experience preferred.
Essential Knowledge And Specialized Subject Knowledge Required To Perform The Essential Functions Of The Job:
  • Knowledge of approved early childhood curriculum and assessment tools.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, specifically legislation affecting changes in early childhood requirements and/or funding.
