Shumaker & Sieffert is on the lookout for skilled patent agents and technical specialists passionate about innovation and collaboration. Tech specs have the opportunity to work with a variety of exciting new technologies and get to use their technical backgrounds in a unique way to help our clients protect their innovations. Tech specs work closely with our attorneys to learn about the new technologies directly from the inventors and then prepare patent applications for those technologies.
Tech specs also prepare, for filing with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, both technical and legal arguments related to those patent applications.
We seek candidates with a Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, aerospace engineering, or physics.
USPTO Registration Number highly preferred. Alternatively, candidates without USPTO registration must have an undergraduate degree that makes them eligible to sit for the USPTO Patent Bar Exam.
This role requires access to systems and information subject to U.S. export control laws, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). To be considered, applicants must be legally authorized to access ITAR-controlled data under applicable federal requirements (e.g., U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, or protected individuals under 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)).
CompensationSalary ranges from $90,000 to $100,000.

The salary range listed in each job posting represents the minimum and maximum targets for new hire salaries across all locations. Actual compensation within this range is determined by various factors, such as experience, billing rate, and production.
