Maintenance Worker – Public Works
The Maintenance Worker provides a variety of skilled maintenance work to support Public Works to ensure the safety and security of County residents and visitors.
Minimum Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent
- Three years of full‑time work experience in highway/road or parks maintenance that included the operation of various types of motorized equipment
- Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Air Brake designation that is not suspended, canceled, or revoked
- Must obtain and maintain a Class “A” CDL with 5th wheel Tractor‑Trailer, Manual Transmission, and Tanker Vehicle endorsement within six months of employment, at the employee’s expense.
- Build and/or widen roads and trails, road grading, cut slopes or landscaping, patching, place bituminous and concrete pavements, shouldering, ditching, culvert replacement, street, and/or trail sweeping, animal carcass removal and mowing.
- Load and/or haul materials such as salt, sand and salt mixtures, gravel, asphalt, debris, etc.
- Complete and proper set up of work zone traffic control measures, in conformance with the MMUTCD, for all operations performed within the highway corridor.
Your training and experience will be rated based on the required application material submitted and the top‑scoring candidates will be forwarded to the hiring department for further consideration.
Hours / Days7:00 am – 3:30 pm / Monday – Friday 40 hours per week. May include day, evening, weekend & holiday hours. Work schedules (hours and days) are subject to change based on department needs.
Anticipated Pay Rate$26.45 to $31.66 hourly

Demonstrate skill in the methods, materials, and equipment used in sign fabrication, sign installation, pavement messages, highway striping, and traffic control signal maintenance;
Demonstrate knowledge of related computer software;
Ability to set up to read grades and stakes;
Ability to comprehend the information contained in equipment, procedural and safety material;
Ability to use the mechanical skill in the safe operation of equipment;
Ability to safely use and care for hand and power tools;
Ability to apply carpentry skills in the performance of various infrastructure maintenance tasks;
Ability to uphold safe working conditions and procedures and follow County and departmental policies and procedures;
Ability to identify potential hazards and correct situations.
Perform snow and ice control to county standards to include plowing snow and applying liquid anti‑icing and de‑icing agents, salt and/or sand and removal of snow;
Operate vehicles, heavy equipment, hand and power equipment and tractor mounted implements in a safe and efficient manner;
Document time spent on particular projects, equipment, roads, park, or facility accurately;
