Principal - Middle School
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
New Jersey Certification in Administration
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:
Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent
SUPERVISES:
Middle School Staff
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12-month position
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Middle School Principal shall be responsible for the administration of the Middle School, and shall insure that the programs conform to the purposes and programs of the total school district.
EVALUATION:
Performance in this area will be evaluated annually in accordance with Board Policy, administrative directives and be consistent with the terms and conditions of employment.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Review the curriculum and courses of study with the staff, making certain that the prescribed program is being carried out.
2. Co-plan and direct, with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, curriculum and instructional improvement projects.
3. Initiate and direct such research as is necessary for the improvement of instruction and administration of the school.
4. Evaluate pupil progress and employ means for improving the quality of instruction.
5. Devote sufficient time to classroom visitation and supervision of instruction.
6. Interview and recommend for employment prospective staff members.
7. Organize, plan and conduct regular meetings of the Middle School faculty with a definite planned program.
8. Study the interests, abilities, talents, experiences and training of those supervised.
9. Recommend the placement of staff members where they will be most efficient.
10. Meet with and plan for student activities as needed.
11.
Requisition materials needed for classroom work in the specified manner.
12. Consult with parents concerning pupils.
13. Be responsible for all school funds and monies.
14. Attend meetings concerned with the place of the school in the community.
15. Continue to read professional literature and to attend professional meetings outside the school system.
16. Approve all school activities.
17. Prepare and present a report each month and a yearly report to the Superintendent of Schools on the progress of the school and its coming events.
18. Alert the Superintendent and the Board to all coming events at least one month in advance.
19. Prepare and issue a regular public relations program with approval of the main office.
20. Complete and submit all local, county, and state forms, as requested, on time.
21. Meet with the Superintendent and keep him informed as to the progress of the school.
22. Be responsible for the compiling and safekeeping of all necessary student records.
23. Assist with the chaperoning of both class field trips and curriculum based trips.
24. Coordinate student recognition programs throughout the school.
25. Oversee the creation of the master schedule and the assignment of student and staff assignments.
26. Recommend textbooks, major courses supply and technology purchases through the Assistant Superintendent.
27. Recommend courses of study or changes in courses of study through the Assistant Superintendent.
28. Maintain discipline among the students and professional staff.
29. Cooperate and work in concert with the Director of Facility Management in the area of supervision, assignment, and problem-solving relative to the Middle School custodial staff.
30. Cooperates and works in concert with the Cafeteria Manager and the Board Secretary in the area of supervision, assignment, and problem-solving relative to the Middle School cafeteria staff.
31. Be responsible to see that proper safeguards are established for all school property and equipment, keeping an up-to-date inventory of the same. All losses or damage to be reported promptly to the Superintendent.
32. Carry out any and all other duties as prescribed by Title 18A, N.J.S.A., or the Rules and Regulations of the Board of Education.
33. Shall perform all other duties and responsibilities as directed by Supervisor.
34. Be responsible to conduct safety and fire drills in accordance with state and local mandates.
35. Prepare and submit an annual budget.
