Job Goal:
The Elementary Principal shall be responsible for the administration of a school or
schools in the system, which shall conform to the purposes and programs of the
total school district. He/she shall organize, coordinate, stimulate and evaluate the
operations of their school including the placement of children, supervision of
instruction, as well as, pupil control and management.
Performance Responsibilities:
Overall responsibilities
1. Develops good community relations through many avenues of good communication with the home. This includes active involvement with the Parent-Teacher group.
2. Develops school procedures that will assist the teachers and children in the orderly management of school life.
3. Supervises the use of buildings, grounds and equipment, including the arrival and departure of transportation vehicles.
4. Plans with the custodian a systematic check on the cleanliness of the building and any equipment or part of the building which might present a safety hazard if not properly serviced.
5. Cooperates with and carries out the policies set down by the Board of Education and Superintendent.
6. Completes the necessary reports required by State, County, and local educational departments.
7. Confers with parents concerning pupil progress or other school concerns.
8. Develops systematic procedure through which parents and staff can move in order to reach a satisfactory solution to a problem.
9. Works with parent-teacher groups towards the betterment of education.
10. In conjunction with the Assistant Superintendent for HR & CAO, participates in the planning of in-service meetings to clarify policies to staff and to keep staff informed about new ideas and techniques.
11. Observes and evaluates non-tenure and tenured staff members, as well as, auxiliary personnel.
12. Handles the numerous clerical duties and record keeping in the office, plus the answering of all correspondence.
13. Files with the Superintendent a monthly report of activities, problems met and recommendations for the solution of these problems. A similar yearly report shall be filed by July 31st.
14. Attends district-wide meetings in order to sustain the desired involvement in curriculum matters.
15. Participates in the budget making processes, as directed by the Superintendent.
16. Manages the Activities Fund for his/her building.
17. Participates in the recruitment and hiring of staff.
18. Works cooperatively with the Supervisor of Facility Management in terms of performance of building custodial and maintenance staff.
19. Supervises the custodian(s) assigned to service his building during the day in the performance of the custodial job description and makes emergency assignments as needed. Any substantial changes in the custodian job description should receive approval of the Supervisor of Facility Management.
20. Reports any problems of custodial personnel not meeting job performance standards to the Supervisor of Facility Management when initial conferences with the custodian fail to produce the desired change.
21. Makes use of custodial personnel after school hours (night crews, scrubbing crews, etc.) and during the summer months to meet emergency situations or short-term assignments which will not substantially deviate from their assignments under the direction of the Supervisor of Facility Management.
22. Supervises the elementary Summer School Program, which is held on a yearly rotating basis in each elementary building.
23. Supervises building testing program, including ESPA, standardized and district-administered assessment.
24. Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee in accordance with the contractual agreement or policies of the Board of Education.

5. Function in a workplace that is usually moderately quiet but that can be noisy at times.
