Job Title and Overview
Instructor – HVAC, Department of Education. No reports to Academic Dean. The instructor is responsible for imparting knowledge and skills to students, ensuring competency, providing quality classroom instruction in lecture, clinical, and laboratory formats, fostering student success, and maintaining professional growth.
Essential Functions- Plan, prepare, and deliver quality classroom instruction in lecture, clinical, and/or laboratory format based on the approved course outline.
- Assess student learning using appropriate methods and demonstrate strong outcomes in Student Retention, Success, and Attendance.
- Conduct engaging lectures and labs, motivate students, address attendance and grades, and contact absentee students by text, email, or phone to improve retention.
- Maintain classroom environment in compliance with campus policies regarding management, attendance, punctuality, and professionalism.
- Prepare instructional materials and equipment, monitor supplies, inform campus personnel of issues, and set learning objectives on the whiteboard.
- Participate in faculty, staff, committee, and in‑service meetings; attend commencement.
- Demonstrate professional growth through membership in educational associations, continuing education, research, seminars, conferences, and professional writing.
- Support other departments (Financial Aid, Admissions, Career Services) and maintain employer relationships with annual contacts.
- Ensure educational activity is conducted legally, ethically, and in compliance with regulatory agencies.
- Work within the Faculty Development Program to demonstrate continuous improvement by meeting criteria such as Success Rate and Retention Rate.
- Resourceful problem solving, ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Positive attitude, initiative, creativity, and ability to motivate staff.
- Proficiency with basic office equipment, computers, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Associate’s degree, diploma, or certificate in HVAC/R or engineering from an accredited post‑secondary institution.
- One year of teaching or field experience in the subject, or documented apprenticeship with a licensed HVAC/R journeyman; or two years documented experience if lacking specific education.
- Certification from a recognized agency in the field taught; must be obtained within 120 days of the first day teaching and maintained as per agency guidelines.
