Position Summary
This position is responsible for providing support with student behavior and monitoring student inclusion.
Primary Role and Responsibilities- Provide academic, social, and behavioral support to students with special needs, both individually and in small groups.
- Help implement lessons and activities, reinforcing concepts and providing individual or small-group support
- Help maintain a safe and secure learning environment and assist with managing classroom behavior.
- Create a physically and emotionally safe environment at site for both staff and students
- Ensure that every student feels known, accepted, valued and respected; communicating in ways that build and maintain high levels of trust
- Maintain awareness of Pro Youth Program goals and processes
- Comply with Pro Youth Employee Handbook and other Policies and Procedures
- Build positive and professional relationships with coworkers, supervisors, Pro Youth executive and administrative staff, site principal, teachers and parents
- Complete responsibilities accurately and on time
- Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned within scope and range of training and knowledge base.
- A strong ability to be patient and empathetic in working with students.

- Possess the personal characteristics generally recognized as essential for good employees including integrity, initiative, emotional maturity, dependability, courtesy, good judgment and ability to work cooperatively with others.
- Attention to detail and accuracy regarding time and organizational management. Requires multi- tasking and extensive customer service skills, and the ability to handle stress in a fast-paced working environment
- Physically and mentally able to perform essential duties of the position
- College Degree with a specialty in Special Education preferred
- High School diploma or equivalent AND
- 48 completed College Units OR
- NCLB Paraprofessional Certification
- Special Education Training
- One or more years of working directly with students with behavioral difficulties in an educational setting.
- Experience working in a team to implement behavior intervention plans.
- Documented training with applied behavioral strategies.
- Special Education Training Certification preferred
- Training in supporting students with toileting needs required
- Crisis Prevention Intervention Training required
- Handle with Care training required
- Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
- Must pass a DOJ/FBI background check.
- Must receive TB clearance.
- Must have reliable means of transportation which may include alternative means of transportation such as public transit, ride sharing, and or biking.
- Ability to work in multiple settings, the indoor classroom environment, and active outdoor locations
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, perform grasping and handling motions, and torso rotations on a continuous basis to engage and guide children’s classroom and playground activities.
- Able to lift and carry 40 pounds of materials
- Able to reach in all directions.
- Adequate sight or corrected vision for the purpose of reading directions and printed or written materials.
- Able to hear and speak to communicate with coworkers, students, and the public.
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate instructional equipment.
- Work in a classroom and outdoor environment, sometimes in adverse weather conditions
