GENERAL PURPOSE

The Assistant Leadership Director is responsible for supervising and supporting the lead counselors, cabin counselors, and CITs at a Girl Scouts of Colorado (GSCO) camp property. This position is responsible for guiding, counseling, and supporting all staff, campers, and CITs in daily living, camp activities, and staff/camper interactions to carry out camp goals. This role is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the counselor-in-training program.

Additionally, this role supports the property, hospitality, operational, program, health, and cabin leadership team as needed as part of the camp team. A primary function of this and every other job at camp is to ensure that each member, guest, and visitor receives the highest caliber of service.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide and/or support emergency procedures during on-site and off-site trip incidents.
  • Provide and/or support health and wellness practices.
  • Provide support as necessary to all operational, program, cabin leadership, and health staff.
  • Support the work of the site, kitchen, and housekeeping staff as needed.
  • Assist in the care & management of program equipment, including storage, maintenance, and usage in coordination with fellow team members.
  • Assist with the oversight of the planning and implementation of program for a group of campers and CITs during overnight, troop day, and family camp sessions.
  • Responsible for the care, maintenance, and inventory of assigned areas, as directed.
PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Camper Leadership & Supervision:
    Provide support & assistance to counseling staff in the supervision and counseling of campers during overnight camp sessions.
  • Support & counsel campers in daily living, camp activities, and developing peer relationships when needed.
  • Provide a meaningful & engaging experience and training for the Counselor-in-Training campers by encouraging leadership opportunities.
Staff Leadership & Supervision
  • Act “in loco parentis”, living with and guiding a group of campers during overnight camp sessions, in accordance with the Colorado childcare licensing ruling 8

    CCR 1402-1, 2.422I.
  • Provide training, support, evaluation, and supervision to counseling staff, while encouraging autonomous decision-making without supervisor approval.
  • Guide and support staff in how to assist and partake in creating a meaningful, safe, and appropriate experience for the CITs.
  • Perform supervisory conferences and coaching reports to guide staff through the evaluation process.
  • Make recommendations and assist carry-out for disciplinary action.
  • Take corrective performance action in the absence of a Director in all areas of camp as necessary.
  • Verify staff competence before assigning them supervisory role. Monitor their performance throughout the season.
  • Train & orient proper use of specialized areas, materials, and delivery of program.
  • Be an active member of the supervisor team to provide cohesive teamwork & leadership opportunities, develop open communication, encourage positive peer relationships, and deliver support.
Administration
  • Manage administrative responsibilities in a timely, independent, and detail-oriented manner.
  • Work on the development, review, and assist in the creation of daily and weekly schedules, under the direction of supervisors and in cooperation with other staff, based on camp program, camper planning, and camp goals.
  • Provide & participate in camper and staff feedback forms as necessary for the overall camp’s strategic planning.
  • Conduct, participate, and provide support of regular staff meetings and training for planning purposes, communication resolutions, and carrying out assignments.
