SUMMARY
A judicial officer adjudicating traffic violations, certain minor liquor and drug violations, parking violations, city ordinances, code violations, and juvenile offenses to include: traffic, alcohol, vandalism, tobacco and any city ordinance
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Adjudicating all complaints that are filed and within the jurisdiction of the Court including, but not limited to, traffic violations, certain minor liquor and drug violations, parking violations, city ordinances, code violations, and juvenile offenses to include: traffic, alcohol, vandalism, tobacco and any city ordinance.
- Issuance of subpoenas, search warrants, bench warrants, and warrants to enter property and abate civil infractions.
- Collaborate with Court administration staff to ensure the juridical functions of the municipal court are accomplished in a professional manner.
- Approve docketing, calendaring and case management policies and procedures as submitted by Court administration staff. Establish bond and fine schedules as set by the State of Colorado legislature and City Code.
- Comply with statistical reporting and records management policies and procedures established by the State of Colorado.
- Perform miscellaneous administrative duties as directed by the City Council.
Reports to City Council
SUPERVISION EXERCISEDExercise direct supervision over other lower level support staff, part-time or temporary employees or volunteers as assigned.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Experience
- Admitted to practice law in the State of Colorado
- Familiarity with City ordinance, State of Colorado traffic codes, and laws relating to juveniles.
- Prior judicial experience with a similar size and complexity municipality is desired.
- Ability to establish positive working relationships with the public, the City Council, and City Staff
- Ability to maintain a fair and impartial attitude
- Ability to uphold the integrity of the Court
- Knowledge of municipal code structure and Colorado Municipal Court Rules, as well as the Colorado Rules of Criminal Procedure
- Current member of the Colorado State Bar
- Must pass pre-employment screenings
- Must possess current Colorado Driver’s License.
Motor vehicle, personal computer, printer, multi-line telephone system, copy machine, facsimile machine, 10-key adding machine, postage machine, computerized cash receipting system, audio/video system, and other general office machines.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and other various pieces of equipment.
WORK ENVIRONMENTWork is performed mostly in an office setting. The employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor conditions whereby the employee could encounter wet, snowy, cold, and/or humid conditions, heat and/or sun, and/or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet in the office, and quiet to moderate outside the office.
