General PurposeThe Camp Nurse is responsible for the daily health care services provided at a Girl Scouts of Colorado (GSCO) camp property. The position involves daily, weekly, and on‑call health care and medication administration for all persons, working under the technical supervision of an on‑call licensed physician. The role supports the property, hospitality, operational, program, and cabin leadership teams as needed and ensures that every camp member, guest, and visitor receives the highest caliber of service.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Implement health and emergency procedures in the Camp Health Plan, Medical Standing Orders, and in accordance with Colorado Dept. of Health & Child Protective Services and American Camp Association (ACA) standards.
- Work within the communicable disease plan to mitigate illness spread.
- Provide support in routine health care and emergency situations in consultation with the Executive Director.
- Collaborate with the camp health team and directors to provide health care for all persons.
- Communicate and advise the Executive Director and staff on camper accommodations for special medical/health/wellness considerations.
- Maintain constant and professional communication with caregivers about health care and services rendered.
- Provide in‑person medication‑administration training for staff who will assist with dispensing medication.
- Ensure proper execution of medication dispensing procedures and charting of all medication.
- Review medical and health treatment logs, illness, injury, and incident reports and medical administration records.
- Follow‑up to assure campers receive medications as directed and to monitor treatment outcomes.
- Communicate recommendations for supply/equipment needs, changes in procedures, and site hazards to health staff and the executive director.
- Maintain relationships with health and emergency service providers and the public.
- Act ‘in loco parentis’ regarding health services for all campers during overnight sessions.
- Support campers in daily living, camp activities, and peer relationship development.
- Provide overnight supervision and care to campers and staff housed in the Health Center when needed.
- Perform ongoing health/medical/first‑aid support for staff and campers.
- Advise all staff on camp‑wide health procedures and practices continuously.
- Verify first‑aid and medical reports submitted by all staff and follow up on treatment.
- Monitor staff first‑aid treatment throughout the season.
- Supervise and guide the health team, including Health Assistants and the Wellness Supervisor.
- Manage administrative responsibilities in a timely and detail‑oriented manner.
- Document and review health/medical practices and procedures at camp.
- Participate in camper and staff feedback forms for strategic planning.
- Interact with digital systems such as Work Bright, Camp Minder, Office
365, Slack, Instagram, and Facebook. - Respect the confidential nature of all staff, volunteer, and camper information.
- Participate in regular staff meetings and training for planning and communication purposes.
- Coordinate and communicate schedules for campers and staff as necessary.
- Observe and assure goals and expectations of leadership and health care services are positive and appropriate.
- Follow policies, procedures, and standards set by ACA, Girl Scouts Safety Activity Checkpoints, Colorado Department of Health and Human Services, and other certifying industry organizations.
- Develop work plans with the Executive Camp Director in conjunction with the camp strategic plan and budget.
- Provide and/or support camp‑wide emergency procedures during on‑site and off‑site trip incidents.
- Support wellness practices, mental, social, and emotional health in conjunction with the Wellness Supervisor.
