Art Teacher – School Year 26‑27

Job Goal
:
To develop in each pupil an interest in and the ability to express himself creatively in visual terms, utilizing skills and techniques of artistic expression appropriate to the pupil's interests and abilities; to develop aesthetic understandings and appreciations; to discover and develop talents of pupils in the field of art.

Using the elements and principles of design, teaches knowledge and skills in the areas of art history, world cultures, drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, multimedia, and technology. Utilizes the curriculum adopted by the Board and other appropriate learning activities.

• Provides instruction enabling pupils to develop aesthetic concepts and appreciations and to make qualitative judgments about art.
• Demonstrates techniques and processes in activities such as drawing, painting, and modeling, using standard and teacher‑prepared instructional aids.
• Develops instructional plans and organizes class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and production time.
• Provides individual and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils with varying intellectual and artistic abilities.
• Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly and productive classroom environment in accordance with district regulations and procedures.
• Instructs pupils in proper care and use of tools and equipment.
• Organizes storage areas and controls use of materials, equipment, and tools to prevent loss or abuse, and to minimize time required for distribution and collection.
• Evaluates each pupil's performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understandings, and prepares progress reports using a variety of assessment methods.
• Communicates with parents and faculty about pupil progress and behavior.
• Selects and requisitions books, instructional materials, tools, and instructional aids, and maintains required inventory records.
• Plans and presents art displays and exhibitions of pupils' work in the school and the community.
• Maintains professional competence through in‑service education activities provided by the district and self‑selected professional growth activities.
• Identifies pupil needs and collaborates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve behavior and learning problems.
• Participates in planning curriculum and other developmental programs.
• Participates in faculty committees.
• Performs such tasks and assumes such responsibilities as the principal may from time to time assign.

• Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with appropriate endorsement.

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Full‑time position at Meadowview/Willow Creek Elementary Schools.
