Overview
Learning Program (MLP) Teaching Assistant – Elementary School, 7 hours per day. .
Description:
MLP Teaching Assistant needed in a K-6 building to work with special education students to improve educational outcomes and provide support within all settings so that all students can actively participate as independently as possible.
- Provide feedback to teachers and related service providers regarding the child’s progress, interests, or challenges.
- Assist with the organization and implementation of instructional tasks and materials to support learning and the instructional process.
- Work with individuals and small groups as requested by the teacher for review, reinforcement, enrichment, or expansion of skills and concepts.
- Record observations of student behaviors and performance in accordance with the curriculum and the student’s IEP goals.
- Assist with various duties (e.g., door duty, hall duty, recess duty).
- Participate in in-service training programs as assigned.
- Use observation, proximity, and prompting strategies to maximize student independence.
- Assist in positive behavior management under the direction of the teacher and team, implementing specific behavior intervention strategies as directed.
- Handle confidential student and staff information in accordance with district procedures.
- Assist with self-care needs of students (feeding, mealtime, toileting, and hygiene) as necessary.
- Support mobility needs of students throughout the school environment, including lifting and transferring as directed by PT and the educational team.
- Provide assistance for successful participation in specials (art, PE, music, etc.).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Must possess a PEL with Paraprofessional Statement of Approval issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.
- Certification and qualifications as set by the State Board of Education and the School Code.
- Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may deem appropriate.
7 hours per day (8:00 to 3:30 p.m.), Monday–Friday.
Salary Range$21.85 - $23.87 per hour, dependent upon experience. Benefits included.
